Functional connectivity transparent point surface glyphs

The data underlying this image is resting state fMRI data. We calculate connection strengths between pairs of points based on similarity in intrinsic activity fluctuations. In this visualization, we render one point for every functional connection between each pair of points on a cortical surface representation. The point's transparency varies from opaque for the strongest connections to invisible for weak and negative connections, covering a wide range of connection strengths. The image is rendered using braingl, a software available at code.google.com/p/braingl, which enables interactive exploration of highly complex visualizations through the use of graphics hardware shaders.
