Transparent fiber structure

Joachim Böttger, Ralph Schurade Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, Leipzig, Germany
Using a large number of lines which follow the direction of diffusion, and rendering them very transparently, yields an overview over the major fiber tracts of the brain's white matter, the anatomical connections of functional areas of cortical and subcortical structures. We used braingl, a software available at code.google.com/p/braingl, to render this high resolution whole-brain tracking result of fibers in the brain. The software uses a combination of depth peeling and a weighted averaging in order to enable the interactive display of large datasets with transparency.
