Art@HBM : introducing Emilio Garcia

We are delighted to announce that our project of art exhibition has received the enthusiastic support of the HBM organizing committee. The human brain mapping (HBM) conference attracts over 2500 attendees each year and is the main forum of the neuroimaging community.  The art show will be held from June 26th to June 30th at the HBM2011 conference venue in the city of Québec, Canada. The pieces will also be exposed on Tuesday night during the "cirque du cerveau" gala in the "musée national des beaux arts" de Québec, as an inspiring counterpoint to the brain-art competition award ceremony.  Art@HBM will feature neuro-works from well established artists and in the next couple of weeks, we will introduce them to you here. We will start this series with Emilio Garcia, who is the man behind the viral "jumping brain", a collectible resine figure that comes in all sorts of flavors :

"United Brains" would actually work well as the Neurobureau new motto ...

Our favorite jumping brain is of course the fMRI one:

I will definitely use this colormap in my next paper

Emilio is involved in all sorts of neuro-urban toys:

brain egg

He also has some larger sculptures :

If I ever get an Harley, this will go in my back.

I don't know yet if we will have that last piece at HBM, but as a true fan of brain parcelation, I couldn't resist to that one : You can find out more about Emilio's work on the jumping brain shop or on facebook. That's all for now. Watch out for our next teasers for art@HBM ! Pierre Bellec, Daniel Margulies & The Neurobureau

    Great initiative!
Finally, creativity -the inherent link between neuroscience and fine arts- is becoming an explicit element of HBM!
