Metamorphosis

Roxanne Sholevar MD
This is a visual representation of the life cycle of a butterfly as a metaphor for the development of glioblastoma multiforme, the "butterfly glioma". Both tumor and butterfly originate from a single cell. They develop into a voracious adolescent, consuming as much as possible to build strength (angiogenesis/caterpillar). They enter a state of dormancy (immune evasion/pupa) before blossoming into an undeniably impressive final form.
