Phrenology was the first theory to attempt an anatomical labelling of the brain's regions, although on incorrect assumptions. Nowadays, we know the brain demonstrates spectacular flexibility and diversity, with brain regions adapting their functions all along the life to the owner's needs, as illustrated by this MC Escher illusion overlaid with the Brodmann atlas.
